Janamastmi @ Jwalapur - Haridwar
Birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated as Janamastmi in most part of India. It generally falls in the month of August, i.e. end of monsoon. In Maharashtra & Gujarat people celebrate with "MATKI PHOD" competition. Unlike this Janamastmi is also celebrated with full enthusiasm in Mathura, Gokul, Barsana & Dwarka by constructing Jhaankies and organizing Kirtan, which goes on for whole week before Janamastmi.
Well, all this was something about Janamastmi, like all these famous places there is one more place which is not so much know when it comes on India's map. I am taking about Jwalapur which shares its locality with the Holy Place Haridwar. Here also people celebrate this festival with full charm for a whole week, and on the final day devotees conduct a sort of religious parade, known as "Shobha Yatra" on the streets of Jwalapur, which attracts almost each and every individual from nearby places. Shobha Yatra goes on for whole night, devotees used to dance n sing without any break, it's a kind of 'must have' experience.
Lord Krishna's "RAAS LILA" is also inacted by the artists one day before Shobha Yatra.
I will be posting pics of this ceremony soon, this year it's on 14th & 15th August.
